MANILA, Philippines — Returning coach Roger Gorayeb will work with co-owners Milka and Mandy Romero to form a competitive team when Capital1 Solar Energy debuts this 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season.

Capital1 Solar Energy announced it is entering the volleyball scene with veteran coach Gorayeb holding a two-day tryout at the San Sebastian College-Recoletos gym on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Power Spikers said that close to 100 players from various clubs and universities have signified their intent to join the tryouts, seeking to be part of the newest PVL team.

Gorayeb, a multi-time NCAA champion coach and decorated club team mentor, is making a comeback in the PVL after three years. He last coached in the PVL during the 2021 Bacarra, Ilocos Norte bubble when he was still handling the PLDT High Speed Hitters, who placed seventh with a 3-6 record.

He parted ways with PLDT after the same season and focused only on the San Sebastian Lady Stags in the NCAA for the past two years.

Gorayeb won a pair of titles with PLDT in Shakey’s V-League in 2015 and steered BaliPure to a 2017 PVL Open Conference championship.

Sisters Milka and Mandy, daughters of sportsman Mikee Romero, are thrilled to join the PVL, keeping the competition to a 12-team field after F2 Logistics’ disbandment.

The co-owners are no strangers to the world of sports as Milka was a former co-captain of the Ateneo football team, while Mandy, who graduated Magna Cum Laude at Georgetown University in Washington DC, was a Muay Thai practitioner.
