MANILA, Philippines–Two more medals have been added to the Philippine coffers when Emmanuel Cantores and Jovan Medallo reached the podium on Tuesday at the 7th World Vovinam Championships in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.

Cantores claimed the silver medal in the men’s -60kg after yielding to Vinh Truong of Vietnam, 1-6, before a highly partisan crowd.

Medallo, meanwhile, bagged the bronze in the men’s sun-moon broadsword, another third-place effort following a similar finish in the Cambodia Southeast Asian Games early this year.

The efforts of Medallo and Cantores came two days after Hergie Bacyadan pulled off a historic triumph on the world stage.

Bacyadan ran into a submissive Russian foe in pocketing the gold medal in the women’s -66kg, the first global victory of the nation in the fast-rising sport.

She turned Mariana Avdeenko into a speed bag in the final, prevailing 10-0 in practically the same manner when Bacyadan forced Cambodia’s Sophy Sok to throw in the towel with crushing blows to the head in the semifinal.
