MANILA, Philippines—Rensy Bajar has been officially named the new head coach of the Letran Knights.

Bajar signed a two-year contract with the Knights on Monday.

The 47-year-old Bajar said he plans to “continue the legacy” left by his predecessor Bonnie Tan, who parted ways with Letran after guiding the team to three straight NCAA championships.

“We’re just continuing the legacy of what coach Bonnie started and the winning culture that’s built here in [Letran],” said Bajar, who was Tan’s deputy at Letran from 2019 to 2022.

Tan’s former assistant coaches Raymund Tiongco and Lou Gatumbato also want to work under Bajar.

“Us coaches promise that every game, we’ll give it all. It may be hard but everything’s possible. We’ll just continue what we’ve been doing before under the guidance of coach Bonnie,” Bajar said in Filipino.

Bajar is also the first San Beda product to call the shots for Letran. Bajar played for the Red Lions, the Knights’ archrivals during the 1990s.

Bajar was also a former head coach of University of the Philippines back in 2015.

He will be tasked to guide a Letran squad seeking a rare “four-peat” led by holdovers Kurt Reyson, Pao Javillionar and Kobe Monje.
