Manchester City maintain unbeaten run with victory over Leicester – Women’s Super League Saturday round-up | Football News

Manchester City remain unbeaten at the top of the Women’s Super League thanks to a 1-0 victory against Leicester.

Chloe Kelly scored the only goal of the game in the 10th minute with a low shot that went underneath goalkeeper Janina Leitzig to end the Foxes’ unbeaten run in the WSL.

The hosts had been tied on points at the top of the table with City and Chelsea heading into the fixture, but have now slipped down to fourth.

Tottenham came from behind as Martha Thomas scored a hat-trick to secure a 4-2 victory against Aston Villa which lifts them up to second in the standings.

Rachel Daly’s penalty gave Villa the advantage but Spurs quickly got back into the game through Thomas’ equaliser before Ashleigh Neville gave them the lead just before the break.

Scotland striker Thomas then bagged her hat-trick in style with two impressive goals before Lucy Parker scored a consolation in stoppage-time.

Another loss means Villa are still without any points so far this season, while Tottenham have now won their last three league games.

Thomas’ impressive goalscoring feats mean she now leads the way for the Golden Boot with six goals in four games, equalling her total from the past two seasons at Manchester United combined.
