AC Milan 1-2 Inter Milan: Inter clinch Serie A title with victory over rivals | Football News

Inter Milan were crowned Serie A champions for a 20th time after a 2-1 win against rivals AC Milan.

Francesco Acerbi’s header and Marcus Thuram’s finish saw Inter claim the Scudetto with five games to spare as Simone Inzaghi’s side took an unassailable 17-point lead over their second-placed city rivals, who scored a late goal through ex-Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori.

Before Inter’s title win was confirmed, tensions boiled over at the San Siro with three red cards shown in stoppage time as Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria were sent off for AC Milan, while Denzel Dumfries was dismissed for Inter.

But the late aggravation could not spoil Inter’s celebrations as Inzagi claimed his first league title as a head coach.

Inter took an 18th-minute lead through Acerbi’s goal and then four minutes into the second half Thuram placed a low shot to double the lead.

Milan started a late comeback with Tomori reducing the deficit in the 80th minute from a rebound but they could not find an equaliser to delay their rivals’ joy.

In stoppage time, tempers flared as a scuffle broke out between the players which resulted in Dumfries and Hernandez both being shown red cards.

A few minutes later Milan were down to nine players when Calabria also received his marching orders for violent conduct after he lashed out with his arm.
