Yeng Guiao didn’t even need a split second to give his thoughts on the coaches’ challenge that has been beneficial for him and his counterparts through the first week of the PBA On Tour.
“I like it,” Guiao said on Friday after Rain or Shine’s 117-93 victory over NLEX at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
And that’s after his first crack at the rule was unsuccessful.
“I want to be unique because all of the previous challenges were successful,” Guiao joked in Filipino after becoming the first coach to have his challenge rejected. Guiao unsuccessfully challenged an offensive foul on Elasto Painters’ big man Jewel Ponferada.
The long-clamored option for coaches to possibly overturn a call has been welcomed with open arms, with the first four challenges in the two-month exhibition series successfully overturning wrong calls.
“The coaches can say that it’s the wrong call and you can challenge it. You can also say that the referee was right because you challenged it,” Guiao said. “So there’s an accountability on both sides which is good.”
