This is a battle that has been waged for years on high school grounds. This time, National University (NU) and University of Santo Tomas (UST) elevated their rivalry to the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball Final.

“It crossed our minds that if NU would win in the do-or-die game [against Far Eastern U], it’s going to be … high school all over again,” sophomore spiker Reg Jurado told the Inquirer during the Tigresses’ practice Thursday evening.

MANILA, Philippines — The University of Santo Tomas Tigresses may be a bunch of UAAP women’s volleyball Finals first-timers but coach KungFu Reyes believes their experience in high school and pre-season have prepared them against the more experienced National University Lady Bulldogs.

UST, composed of young players led by super rookie Angge Poyos, has returned to the UAAP finals after five years, and standing in its way is NU, which made it to the UAAP Finals for the third straight time.

They collide in a best-of-three title series starting Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — Fourteen years after steering the University of Santo Tomas to a UAAP title, Shaq Delos Santos–this time, as an assistant coach–is raring to help end the school’s championship drought in the Season 86 women’s volleyball finals.

Delos Santos was the last coach to steer UST to a championship as his squad led by Rhea Dimaculangan and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas swept La Salle in the championship series of Season 72 for the school’s 16th title.

He found himself back on the Tigresses’ turf with his role as part of coach KungFu Reyes’ staff playing an instrumental role in the team’s return to the finals after five years. FULL STORY

As difficult as things have been for National University (NU) so far during its UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball campaign, the Lady Bulldogs know it won’t get any easier from here as they battle University of Santo Tomas (UST) for all the glory in the Finals.

“UST won’t back down, you can see its hunger when they play,” Lady Bulldogs star hitter Bella Belen said in Filipino after securing a seat to the Finals on Wednesday with a 25-13, 27-25, 25-15 bounce-back win against Far Eastern University (FEU). And Belen knows what she and the Lady Bulldogs have to do when they shoot for the crown starting on Saturday. FULL STORY
