PHNOM PENH—Team Philippines plucked a gold medal in esports with a 3-1 victory over Vietnam in the League of Legends: Wild Rift event at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.
The mixed team of Aaron Mark Bingay, Chammy Paul Nazarrea, Golden Hart Dajao, Justine Ritchie Tan and Reniel Angara won three out of their four games to clinch the title and increase the country’s haul to 14 gold medals.
Vietnamese Gia Huy Tran, Hong Phuc Tran, Minh Manh Bui, Nhat Tan Dang and Trung Hau Ho managed to secure the third match after the Filipinos grabbed the first two games only to falter in the next.
With Gerald Gianne de Vera as substitute, the Philippines won its preliminary match with Singapore held at the Nagaworld 2 here.
Vietnam, which captured the gold last year in the Hanoi SEA Games, was ahead of the Filipinos, 2-0, in the upper bracket prior to the grand finals.
