Quezon continues to strike with homestand sweep

MANILA, Philippines — League leader Quezon showed no signs of complacency as it dominated Rizal St. Gerrard Charity Foundation,25-21, 25-20, 25-23, on Sunday to complete a home weekend sweep in the Maharlika Pilipinas Volleyball Association (MPVA) Season 1 at Quezon Convention Center in Lucena.
Cristy Ondangan stood out among the four Tangerines who scored in double figures, smashing 13 points built on nine attacks and four blocks.

Quezon assured itself of a top-two finish in the elimination round with a 12-1 record in the nine-team MPVA founded by former Senator and also MPBL chairman Manny Pacquiao and organized by the Volleyball Masters of the Philippines.

Mary Grace Borromeo also delivered with 12 points for the Tangerines– composed of College of Saint Benilde players–while go-to spikers Rhea Mae Densing and Mycah Go had 11 each.

Quezon swept its homestand after taking care of business against AM Caloocan Air Force, 23-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-12, on Saturday, looking to win its last three games of the two-round elimination.
Idle Bacoor, at 9-2, holds the inside track for the remaining twice-to-beat incentive with the potential to even snatch the top seeding.

Rizal slid to a 10-4 record with Johna Denise Dolorito carrying the cudgels with 12 points.
Meanwhile, Biñan Tatak Gel wiped out winless WCC Marikina, 25-15, 25-17, 25-12, to shore up its semifinal bid.
Shane Carmona and Chreizel Aguilar tallied 11 points each to lead the Volley Angels, who firmed up hold of the fourth spot at 7-5.
Biñan’s win kept the chasing AM Caloocan Air Force (5-6) at bay in the heated semifinal race entering the tail end of the MPVA.

Marikina remained winless in 13 games with Karla Concepcion being the top scorer with six points.
