MANILA, Philippines — PLDT made a recruitment spree for the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season after landing former F2 Logistics stars Kianna Dy, Majoy Baron, and Kim Fajardo.
Multiple sources confirmed to the Inquirer that the Cargo Movers’ troika is reuniting with La Salle teammate Mika Reyes, who was their senior teammate when the Lady Spikers reclaimed the UAAP championship after beating the Alyssa Valdez-led Blue Eagles in the Season 78 women’s volleyball Finals Game 3 last 2016.
Another source bared that Dy, Baron, and Fajardo will be introduced as the newest High Speed Hitters in the coming days after the departure of Michelle Morente, Mean Mendrez, and Anj Legacion.
The Inquirer sought PLDT coach Rald Ricafort for confirmation but he has yet to respond as of posting time.
The trio found their new home after F2 Logistics — their team since 2016 — decided to disband its PVL team to focus on grassroots.
Dy, who emerged as the go-to scorer of the Cargo Movers, injured her knee in the Invitational Conference semifinal round and was not able to return until the season-ending All-Filipino Conference. Her injury wasn’t disclosed.
The star opposite spiker is bolstering the wing spiker rotation of PLDT, joining Savannah Davison, Erika Santos, Fiola Ceballos, Jules Samonte, and the injured Jovielyn Prado.
Fajardo is teaming up with fellow seasoned playmaker Rhea Dimaculangan, who used to be her rival in the defunct Philippine Superliga during F2 Logistics’ couple of championship duels against Petron.
Baron is reunited with her fellow ‘Taft Tower’ Reyes as they fortify with PLDT frontline with Dell Palomata.
PLDT reached the semifinals in the first two conferences during the 2023 PVL season but missed the second All-Filipino Conference after falling short with a 7-4 record in fifth place.
Several F2 players have already signed with new teams with Dawn Macandili-Catindig and Jovelyn Fernandez signing to Cignal, Ivy Lacsina joining Nxled, Aby Maraño and Ara Galang landing at Chery Tiggo, and Petro Gazz tapping middle blocker Ethan Arce and Joy Dacoron.
