MANILA, Philippines–San Miguel Beer turned in a dominant performance from the jump to whip Converge, 105-96 on the road on Saturday night.
Import Ivan Aska, June Mar Fajardo, and CJ Perez combined for 74 of the Beermen’s total output as the powerhouse club scored a wire-to-wire victory at Tiaong Convention Center in Quezon province.
Aska tallied 28 points and 11 rebounds while Perez 24 and 11. Fajardo chipped in 22 and nine in the effort that had San Miguel rising to 2-1 in the Commissioner’s Cup.
Aljun Melecio had 17 points and five assists, while import Tom Vodanovic added 11 points that went with 20 rebounds as the FiberXers’ losing drought extended into four games.
Converge pulled within 84-85 in the fourth quarter behind a Mac Tallo jumper, but the seven-time Most Valuable Player Fajardo was quick to reassert the Beermen’s control of the contest.
San Miguel will try to annex a third win when it battles yet another winless side in Rain or Shine this coming Wednesday.
Converge, meanwhile, will try to snap its skid against a resurgent Phoenix that currently sits on a 3-1 slate.
