Migs Oczon gets winning KBL debut with Ulsan

MANILA, Philippines — Migs Oczon had a winning Korean Basketball League (KBL) debut as the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus after beating SJ Belangel and the Daegu Kogas Pegasus, 90-83, on Sunday evening.
Oczon made his debut for Ulsan before the New Year and played eight minutes to finish with four points, two rebounds, and an assist.
The College of Saint Benilde shooter arrived in South Korea Friday last week to live his dream of playing abroad after deciding to forgo his remaining years of eligibility in the NCAA.
Gaige Prim powered Ulsan with 26 points and eight rebounds to improve to a 13-14 record for the sixth seed.
SJ Belangel was scoreless as he hardly saw action in the game but he warmly welcomed Oczon to the KBL before their game. Daegu slid to a 7-20 card.
Sean Ildefonso didn’t play but Suwon KT Sonicboom edged KCC Egis, 83-80, on Monday at their home court.
Paris Bass unleashed 44 points, nine rebounds, and five assists to lead Suwon to an explosive win on New Year’s Day with an 18-9 record tied with third-seed Changwon.
Juan Gomez De Liaño also didn’t see action but the Seoul SK Knights banked on Jameel Warney’s monstrous double-double of 31 points and 16 rebounds to beat the Seoul Samsung Thunders, 80-76.
De Liaño and the Knights improved to an 18-8 record at No.2 behind league leader Wonju (23-5).
