Maddie Madayag to play in Japan SV.League

MANILA, Philippines — Maddie Madayag is headed to Japan after signing with the Kurobe Aqua Fairies for her first overseas stint.

GT Sports on Monday announced on Instagram that the Choco Mucho captain signed a contract for the 2024-25 season of the SV.League, which opens in October.

Zoi Faki, Dzi Gervacio, Marck Espejo, and other Filipino players commented on the post to congratulate Madayag on her new journey.

Choco Mucho will miss the leadership and formidable frontline presence of Madayag in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

The Flying Titans wished Madayag well in her first foray in Japan.

Madayag is joining former Ateneo teammate Jia De Guzman, the setter of Denso AiryBees, and Filipino-Japanese Jaja Santiago of Osaka Marvelous in the top-tier Japanese league.

The Flying Titans will be leaning on Alas Pilipinas middle blocker Cherry Nunag, Maika Ortiz, Lut Malaluan, and rookie Lorraine Pecaña in the longest PVL tournament yet.

Choco Mucho, which will have Sisi Rondina back, placed ninth in the Reinforced Conference.

Madayag is on a mission to help Kurobe rise from a 4-18 record in 11th place in the V.League.

Marck Espejo is also seeing action in Japan for Kubota Spears Osaka in the men’s V.League.
