MANILA, Philippines—After working out with the Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz, Filipino center Kai Sotto will extend his string of training with NBA teams, this time with the New York Knicks.
According to Heavy Sports, Sotto will fly to New York next week to test his luck with other aspiring prospects in hopes of making a Summer League roster.
“He’s going through the process right now of introducing himself to NBA teams and coaches and compete against other players that are hungry to get an opportunity to play in the Summer League and get an opportunity to make a roster,” Sotto’s agent Tony Ronzone said in an episode of PlayItRight with Quinito Henson.
It’s going to be a busy year for Sotto, who recently signed an extension with the Hiroshima Dragonflies in the Japan B.League. His name was also included in the Gilas Pilipinas’ 21-man pool for the upcoming Fiba World Cup.
The 21-year-old Sotto, however, believes that there won’t be any conflict with his commitment as far as seeing action for Gilas is concerned.
“The Summer League won’t be a conflict in terms of scheduling. it [Summer League] finishes in mid-July and the World Cup is at the end of August. I think there will be time,” Sotto said.
“It’s the World Cup and the Philippines is hosting so it might be the biggest games in our careers.”
