MANILA, Philippines — Julia Coronel is excited to make her PVL debut for Galeries Tower after a fruitful stint with Alas Pilipinas.
Coronel, the third overall pick of the HighRisers in the Rookie Draft last July, missed the Reinforced Conference due to her national team duty, which she seeks to bring with her professional team in the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference.

“Naging experience and tactics siguro na natutunan ko from Alas especially ‘yun talaga rin nadadala ko sa team ko ngayon. Parang marami akong nakikitang ibang diskarte na nagagamit ko rin sa current team ko and hopeful ma-apply ko throughout the season,” Coronel told reporters.

The rookie setter, who was part of Alas Pilipinas’ bronze medal finishes in the AVC Challenge Cup and SEA V.League, admitted she’s still adjusting to the system of coach Lerma Giron and working on her connection with spikers Graze Bombita, Roma Joy Doromal, and Jewel Encarnacion and libero Alyssa Eroa.

“Definitely, hindi siya naging madali at first, talagang may mga naging struggles ako kasi it’s a new system I have to get used to and new players I have to connect with and of course, coaching staff din bago rin for me,” said Coronel. “It was quite difficult at first, pero right now, mas nakikita kong nagje-jell ako better with the team and mas nakikita ko na rin talaga ‘yung team chemistry namin.”
“Sobrang happy rin ako sa nakikita kong progress naming. Nakikita ko rin ‘yung bunga ng nagiging training namin. Hopefully, mag-translate talaga this upcoming conference and succeeding games,” she added.

Coach Giron said it’s not hard to teach her system to the former La Salle star.
“Fast learner ‘to. Iyun ang gusto ko doon. Talagang we tried din nga na i-figure out sa paraan na maihahain namin sa kanya para maka-adapt doon sa system. Eventually, nagulat na lang ako one day ang bilis na ng set. ‘Yung sistema na sinasabi namin sa kanya, nagki-click na,” the Galeries tactician said.
“And with the addition tulad ni Julia, malaking bagay para sa team talaga to boost the offense of the team.”
After a winless Reinforced Conference, Galeries seeks to rise from the ashes in the six-month All-Filipino starting on Saturday against Akari at Philsports Arena.
