NCAA: Migs Oczon scores career-high 29 to lift Benilde past San Sebastian

MANILA, Philippines—The College of St. Benilde avoided a three-game losing streak after defeating San Sebastian, 87-72, behind Migs Oczon’s career-high in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament at San Juan Arena on Saturday.
Oczon exploded for 29 points–the most he’s scored in his collegiate career–to go along with four assists and two rebounds for the Blazers, who improved to a 2-3 record.
“I just felt relaxed. I went with the flow of the game and I’m grateful that my shots were falling,” said the sharpshooting guard.
“My teammates’ and coaches’ trust was there and I just tried to repay it by making those shots.”
Helping Oczon on offense was Robi Nayve with 16 points while league MVP Will Gozum registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Rafael Are scored a team-high 15 while Raymart Escobido and Romel Calahat chipped in 13 and 12 markers, respectively, in a losing effort for the Golden Stags, who slid down to a 1-3 card.

Earlier, Jose Rizal University secured a 71-65 win over Perpetual Help.
Shawn Argente led the cavalry with 17 markers built on five triples. Joshua Guiab, meanwhile, finished with 12 points and five rebounds to power the Heavy Bombers to a 4-1 card.
The Altas, who crashed to a 1-3 record, was spearheaded by Marcus Nitura with 19 points but to no avail. Jelo Razon, Christian Pagaran and Art Roque also notched 14, 12 and 11 markers, respectively.
