MANILA, Philippines — Adamson University has let go of Jerry Yee as his women’s volleyball team coach due to his upcoming return to the Premier Volleyball League.

In a shocking development, the school announced on Wednesday that he is releasing Yee after handling the Lady Falcons for one season a day after it was announced that he is handling the new PVL team Farm Fresh..

Adamson didn’t specify the main reason but the school said it understood the seasoned volleyball coach’s decision to return to the pro ranks.

“It is with regret that we are releasing Coach Jerry Yee from his commitment with Adamson University as Head Coach of the Women’s Volleyball Team (WVT) effective today, June 7, 2023,” the school wrote. “We understand his desire to return to the professional league and though it pains us to see him go, he has our complete and sincere support in his new endeavor.”

During the offseason of the UAAP volleyball tournaments, Yee was tapped by the expansion PVL squad to call the shots for the Invitational Conference starting on June 29.

He is also handling the College of Saint Benilde, which he led to back-t0-back NCAA championships for the past two seasons.

Most of the UAAP volleyball coaches are also calling the shots for several teams like Ateneo coach Oliver Almadro also handling Petro Gazz, University of the Philippines coach Shaq Delos Santos (Cignal), and National University men’s coach Dante Alinsunurin (Choco Mucho).

Akari, the sponsor of Adamson women’s volleyball team, is also part of the PVL with the Chargers under coach Jorge Souza de Brito seeing action since last year’s Reinforced Conference.

Yee will bring the core of the Lady Blazers in his return to the PVL one year after steering Petro Gazz to the 2022 Open Conference Finals.

In Yee’s first season with Adamson, the Lady Falcons ended a nine-year Final Four drought, finishing the elimination with a 10-4 record before losing to the twice-to-beat National University Lady Bulldogs in the semifinals.

Adamson still made it to the podium as the bronze medalist of the tournament.

The school expressed its gratitude to Yee as it will be in search of a new coach for the third straight time in three years after the outgoing coach replaced Lerma Giron last year.

“The Adamson University community would like to thank him for all his contributions to the recent success of the WVT of Season 85. It was an inspiring journey for the Lady Falcons and without him as their Head Coach, their podium finish would not have been possible ,” the statement read. “Once again, thank you Coach Jerry. We wish you all the best!”
