MANILA, Philippines—The 13th edition of the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders camp will feature two young Filipino prospects when it rolls on this weekend at New York University, Abu Dhabi.
Letran Squires’ Andy Gemao and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s Jelomar Rota will be participating in the league’s basketball camp for the youth and will be competing with 80 young basketball prospects across Asia and the Middle East.
Gemao and Rota showed glimpses of their talents not just in their respective leagues of the NCAA and CESAFI but also in the recently concluded 2023 Smart-NBTC National Finals.
Gemao, Rota and the other aspiring players will be guided by current NBA players Saddiq Bey, and Monte Morris, NBA veterans Taj Gibson and Rodney McGruder.
Joining the players on the sidelines are NBA assistant coaches John Bryant, Ryan Forehan-Kelly, Ryan Richman, Sean Sweeney, Mike Weinar and Nina Hsieh.
The camp will include activities to push the level of high-school basketball with movement efficiency drills, offensive and defensive skill stations, three-point contests, 5-on-5 scrimmages and life skills and leadership development sessions.
The BWB program started back in 2001 with 106 former campers being successful in their NBA or WNBA journey.
Kai Sotto, Jared Bahay, Forthsky Padrigao and Harold Alarcon participated in the BWB program before making their names at the collegiate level.
