MANILA, Philippines — With the La Salle stars resting, role players stepped up for the Lady Spikers to complete a Pool C sweep with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-16 victory over Jose Rizal University in the 2024 Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-season Championship on Sunday at Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Angel Canino only played one set and had four points, while Shevana Laput sat ou the game but the second unit and senior high guest players delivered for the play-off bound La Salle.

Sandy Demain led the way with 11 points, while her fellow high school player Amor Guinto chipped in 10 points including the match-clinching hit.

Jyne Soreño fired six aces to finish with 10 points, while Katrina Del Castillo also scored 10 to win their second game in three days.

“Especially since I’m playing with younger teammates, we help each other on the court. I just focus on getting the service in with no errors, because we need to maintain what we practiced in training. We have to be consistent with all our serves,” said Soreno after contributing more than half of the Lady Spikers’ 10 service ac

The Lady Spikers will face the No. 1 seed from Pool A and second-ranked teams from Pool B and D in another round-robin play for one of the two twice-to-beat quarterfinals advantages at stake.

La Salle struggled to close out the second set despite erecting a commanding 20-9 advantage. JRU pulled off a scary 10-3 rally behind Shanine Pretta and Nicole Deala to cut its deficit to 23-19 before the Lady Spikers stopped the bleeding for a 2-0 match lead.

It was all La Salle in the third set with Guinto and Del Castillo taking over with a combined 11 points.

JRU remained winless in two games with Deala and Cherry Dayame leading with seven and six points, respectively.
