MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines’ women’s team bagged a gold medal in soft tennis in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia on Tuesday.
The women’s team of Christy Sañosa, Fatima Ayesha Amirul, Noelle Conchita Mañalac, Noelle Nikki Zoleta, Princess Lorben Catindig and Virvienica Isearis Bejosano grabbed gold to end the team event.
The Filipinos swept Indonesia, 3-0, to send them to a silver medal finish.
Mañalac and Catindig also won the gold in the women’s double category last Sunday.
The men’s team of Adjuthor Moralde, Dheo Talatayod, George Mendoza, Joseph Arcilla, Mark Anthony Alcoseba and Sherwin Ray Nuguit, however, was not too lucky.
They bounced out of the men’s team event semifinals against Thailand with a 2-1 loss to settle for a bronze medal.
Indonesia currently leads the medal race in the soft tennis category with two gold medals while the Philippines currently sits at second place with a gold and a bronze.
