Terrence Romeo listed as day-to-day in PBA semis with hurt ankle

MANILA, Philippines—Terrence Romeo sat out San Miguel’s Game 1 win over Ginebra in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals on Wednesday with a left ankle sprain.
Romeo was in his uniform but didn’t suit up in Beermen’s close 92-90 victory over the Gin Kings at Araneta Coliseum due to an apparent sprain that he suffered after one of the team’s practices.
The dynamic guard said he is waiting for the doctor’s advice on his next step, leaving him a game-time decision for Game 2 of the PBA semifinals on Friday.
“I did some extra work [after practice] and during one of my drills, I sprained my ankle after making a move. My shoes stuck and I heard something pop. I tried to apply ice to it and rest for two days but I really can’t,” said Romeo in Filipino.
“I tried doing warm-ups but I really can’t do it. Tomorrow, I’ll have a check-up and see what needs to be done, if it’s therapy or what.”
In Romeo’s absence, CJ Perez played the lion’s share of minutes in the guard rotation and ended up with 26 points, five rebounds and three assists.
While the Beermen drew first blood over their sister team, coach Jorge Gallent said it would’ve been nicer to have Romeo’s services.
“You all know Terrence. If he says it really hurts then it really hurts. He will play as hard as he can but right now, it just really hurts,” said the veteran tactician.
“I just hope he gets well soon. We missed him today and I just hope he gets better on Friday. As of now, [he’s] day-to-day. At least, Terrence was honest enough to tell us that it really hurts so we’ll see,” Gallent added.
Romeo is currently averaging 15.4 points and 4.5 dimes in 19 minutes per night for San Miguel.
The Beermen and the Gin Kings clash in Game 2 of the semis on Friday at Mall of Asia Arena.
