MANILA, Philippines — Xyrus Torres decided to forgo his last playing year with Far Eastern University after signing with the 3×3 team, TNT Triple Giga.

Torres on Thursday announced that he is ending his nine-year stint with the Tamaraws from high school to college, expressing his gratitude to the school that “shaped him as a student-athlete and individual.”

“I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the entire FEU community for the unwavering support throughout my athletic career. It is your continuous support that has fueled my drive and inspired me to push my limits both on and off the field. In a span of nine years, I was able to visit 6 different countries representing not only the school, but also our country and I owe this all to FEU,” wrote Torres.

The FEU shooter, who will be leaving the team with graduating guard L-Jay Gonzales, thanked all the people, who were part of his journey from the juniors to seniors divisions.

“To my teammates, thank you for not only being my fellow athletes but my second family. The countless hours spent in training, bonding, and competing together have shaped friendships that will last a lifetime,” said Torres, who played under former coach Olsen Racela and incumbent Tamaraws mentor Denok Miranda during his college stint.

“I also give my love and respect to the coaches who were responsible for who I am now. To my coaches during my Junior and Senior years, thank you for your guidance, support, and mentorship. Your commitment to developing both my skills as a player and my character as an individual has had a profound impact on my life. Moreover, your mentorship has extended beyond the basketball court. You have guided me in making sound decisions and setting goals,” he added/

Torres was one of FEU’s go-to scorers, averaging 9.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in Season 86, where the Tamaraws placed seventh with a 3-11 record.

The 6-foot winger will play for the most decorated 3×3 squad in the country, TNT in the PBA 3×3 and its pocket tournaments abroad.
