MANILA, Philippines — Sisi Rondina is thrilled to see former University of Santo Tomas teammate and friend Dimdim Pacres realize her dream to play in the pro ranks.

Rondina got the better of Pacres in their first duel after pouring in 16 points to lead Choco Mucho past Galeries Tower, 25-21, 25-16, 25-20, for its third straight win in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) second All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.

But the former UAAP Most Valuable Player was happy for her fellow Cebuano, who is finally playing in the PVL after a four-year hiatus.

“I’m happy for her because we all know the story of Dimdim. For the longest time, she wasn’t able to play. And we’re grateful because Galeries accepted her,” said Rondina in Filipino.

Rondina admitted that it’s been a while since they caught up with each other due to their busy schedules but she lauded Pacres for her dedication amid the rejections and challenges she faced.

“I’m happy for my friend. She really loves volleyball even if the sport made her feel that it doesn’t love her back but she continued to work to make this comeback possible,” she said.

Pacres was scoreless in two sets played against Rondina. But the latter hopes the best for the Highriser as they try to end their four-game losing skid.

“I hope she continues to work hard and prove that she deserves this spot,” said Rondina.

Like Rondina, Chery Tiggo deputy KungFu Reyes and outside spiker EJ Laure were also happy for the former Tigress during their duel two weeks ago.
